It all started before we knew there was such a thing as Caudiciform. Back then we had a small collection of caudex plants and other succulents consisting of an old Bursera Fagaroides, a large Dioscorea Elephantipes, a Bowiea Volubilis, an Adenia and a few other succulents.

Today, the collection has grown a lot and we are always looking for new, rare species to add to the collection and to sell - that's why we started Caudiciform.com in 2017. Today, a number of caudiciform and succulent Pelargoniums, Euphorbia, Sarcocaulon, Pachypodium, Othonna, Cyphostemma, Commiphora, Adenium, Adenia and other genera that contain Caudiciform plants have been added to the collection.

Caudiciforms make excellent houseplants, greenhouse plants and even garden plants. They have the great advantage - besides being extremely fun, different and sculptural potted plants - that most species can survive without water for a very long time.

Caudiciform means "stem-like" - caudex is Latin for stem. Caudiciform refers to plants that have parts of the plant above or below ground that resemble a trunk like a tree, but are often part of the roots or remain small. If the caudex is very thick, the plants are also called pachycaul - a mixture of Greek and Latin for thick stem. In English, the plants are often called "fat plants" and you may also come across the term tuberous plants or just tubers.

There is a lot of good knowledge about caudiciforms and tuberous plants online - and we have gathered some of it on the plant care pages. If you have any questions, or if you have plants you would like to sell or trade, please write to us

All our plants come from nurseries in Denmark and a few from elsewhere in the EU. We do not sell our plants outside the EU and therefore do not provide phytocertificates.

We also sell plant pots and potting soil suitable for caudiciforms and other succulents. Most of our Pots and jars for caudex plants are made of Danish ceramics produced in Denmark by Danish ceramists. Our growing mediums are limited to cactus soil, pumice for plants, the lava types lavalite, zeolite and vulkaponic and akadama clay. Sand, clay, topsoil, gravel and silt are also used as planting soil for caudex plants and other succulents - and other houseplants such as cacti. These types are readily available and can usually be bought in DIY stores in Denmark.

Are you visiting our site from outside Denmark - or just need help with the text in Danish send us a message with inquiries about sales and where we ship to.
