Ceraria Pygmaea is one of the caudiciform collectors' favorites, but also quite rare in the trade. As the name suggests, it is a dwarf plant that never grows very large, but its thick root gives an almost perfect mini-tree appearance when the plant is raised. In the wild, most of the caudex is underground.

Ceraria Pygmaea originates from the Richterveld in South Africa and southern Namibia, which is why it has the characteristic feature of being extremely good at retaining water and tolerating long periods without rain. Avoid watering completely during the winter period in Denmark and start light watering from March - October. Like most other plants from north-western South Africa, ceraria Pygmaea prefers a slightly alkaline soil, so watering with rainwater is an advantage. Fertilize regularly during the growing period.

Der er ingen grænser for hvor meget sol planten kan tåle, og den får ikke den kompakte form uden langvarig og stærk sol eksponering. I naturen minder plantens form meget om Avoniaernes - som den er i familie med.

Grow ceraria Pygmaea in a rocky soil with maximum drainage and grow the plant in as small a pot as possible so that no water is allowed to stand in the pot. If the plant is not watered in winter, it will tolerate a little frost.
